Word has reached us of a Georgian Singing Evening with Carl Linich on Thursday November 21st in OXFORD at the New Road Baptist Church in Bonn Square, Queen Street from 7:00 pm. to 10:00 pm. It will start at 7:15 pm. and finish around 9:45 pm. with a break for refreshments.

The fee will be at £12 / £10 / £8 according to means (self-assessed) including refreshments. There are still places available if anyone else would like to come.

The workshop will be with Carl Linich, an American who founded the first Georgian choir in the West, the Kavkasia Trio, and has won awards from the Georgian State for his contribution to the preservation and promotion of Georgian singing. You can find a full biography, pictures and audio samples at: http://www.nyfolklore.org/tradarts/music/artist/linichc.html

The event is being organized by Michael Bloom who has known Carl for around 15 years and know him to be an excellent teacher so it should be a very interesting evening.  If you are interested in going email Michael direct a michaelbloom1@compuserve.com

The Choir is back

It's back! Encouraging everyone to sing at work, he's everyone's "favourite Choir Master" (apart from us as we have our very own belovéd ChoirMeister), Gareth Malone and his clean cut choirness.

According to the blurb on the BBC Website, "Choirmaster Gareth Malone returns to create harmony in five of Britain's biggest workplaces. As the contest to be crowned 'best workplace choir' begins, he sets sail with P&O, the UK's longest-running cross-Channel ferry service. With choir members based at sea and on both sides of the English Channel, can Gareth create a musical entente cordiale."

Well good luck to him in encouraging ordinary people to start singing - it's never done us no harm!
The program is on Mon 4 Nov 2013 21:00 BBC Two - More info from http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03hhwb4.

St Georges Gathering Voices

A fantastic photo of the blokes in action last weekend at the very, very special Gathering Voices event as part of the Festival of Song in the Singing City of Bristol (© Bristol Festival of Song).

Congratulations to all the organizers who put together a remarkable series of events and were kind enough to invite us back to perform to a very discerning audience.  More soon.

Turnip Soup a Triumphant Success

Gringos, you can trust them, at least according to the chorus of one of our new songs that was premiered at our gig at the Sundial Theatre last week to much acclaim.

Right before the show there was an impressive collection of gringos, bandidos, and even a man stuck on top of what we believe was a comedy horse costume.  All in a night's work for our brave lads.

In fact, there were many new hats getting a first outings as well as two more new songs, our homage to Welsh male voice choirs in the guise of a superb rendition of the classic, Myfanwy, and our tribute to Georgian inspired Aussie man choirs, with the awesome Shen Xar.

No one in the audience appeared too perturbed with any mispronunciations of ancient Georgian but they did seem to relish the silliness of the beards, the "Vly" descending from the skies to threaten the Turmot and some pretty decent singing, even if we do say so ourselves, but only because family, friends and various associates said it first.

Generous applause was received at the end of each piece, so much so that we were lured back on for an unplanned encore that was such a surprise only the basses got told what song we were going to do until the split second before we started!

One final audience participation version of "Down to the River" later we finished and had to leave the capacity audience of well over 200 souls baying for more or rushing out to buy CDs or sign up to the mailing list.

Special thanks go to all who helped make it another great evening, in particular the stunningly brilliant vocal gymnastics of The Croutons, all at the Sundial Theatre and all who helped with the Memorabilia Stand.  Turnip Soup was indeed an autumnal heart warming success.
